Returning to Vancouver

Our final sea day started pretty slowly. We had breakfast at the buffet and then mum headed away for a talk while I went shopping for some gifts for people back home.

When mum and I met up again at lunch, we decided to head down to learn how to do towel folding. This particular demonstration was pretty interesting as I am a Girls Brigade leader and thought that this could be a great option to fill in one night gaps in the year.

After lunch we grabbed our cameras and headed out to the aft pool deck to do some wildlife spotting. The weather this day was the best that we had on the entire cruise, not too hot but not too cold with just enough of a breeze to make you feel alive. Around lunch we had made our way into the Queen Charlotte Sound so it was pretty sheltered.

Over the course of the afternoon, we watched as we passed the main land and Vancouver Island, and tried our hand at wildlife spotting. At one point we saw a group of people standing on one side of the ship looking at something, so we joined the crowd and saw that some whales had come to pay us a visit. Our in the distance we saw the little spurts that came from when a whale was near the surface. At this point I was trying to get some pictures of this when the Canadaian Coast Guard came past and I got a prefect shot of their boat.

After about half an hour of watching the shore, another group had gathered at the back railing with all their cameras. This time there was a whale fluking. I was lucky and managed to get quite a few photos of this and it topped off a pretty remarkable cruise for wildlife spotting.

As the day started drawing to an end, I went back to the room briefly to get a grease stain out of the jacket that I was wearing, and when I got back mum told me that I had just missed a pod of Dolphins jumping in the wake of the ship. So from that moment, I was on my guard to make sure that I did not miss the Dolphins again should they reappear.

For dinner, we discovered that the pizza place had Gluten Free pizza bases so we had one each and sat outside and watched as we got closer to civilization as houses kept getting more frequent. At one point I went and grabbed mum and I a drink from the buffet and when I got back I found out that I had once again missed the Dolphins.

When it got too cold to be sitting outside, we headed back to our room to pack our big suitcases as we needed to put them outside the cabin before going to bed that night. So we put a movie on and started packing up all our stuff, leaving just enough out to make sure we had the stuff that we needed for the next mornings' final disembarkation.
